Why we Love Group Fitness

I have been teaching group fitness classes for over 20 years, but my love of group fitness started well before that. 

I was first introduced to this form of exercising when I participated in a step class at the tender age of 16. I was hooked from the moment I first tapped my foot on that step. This class combined all the things I loved: music, dancing and fitness. I haven't looked back! 

Over the years, I have taught a variety of classes and styles including step, spinning, bootcamps, high-low, boxfit, weight training for women and yoga. Whether I am the partcipant or the instructor, being a part of a group fitness class raises my spirits, increases my energy and keeps me working hard the entire time. Benefits of participating in a group fitness class:

  • Meet new people and foster a connection with your community: This is especially important for new and expectant parents. Meet others who share similar interests, and who can help keep you motivated and hold you accountable (they will notice if you are MIA)

  • Get inspired by your instructor: The energy of a great instructor will set the tone of the workout and can encourage you along as you work towards your goals. We are so lucky to have some amazing instructors in our Fitmama Strong line-up!

  • Let the music motivate you & pump you up: There is nothing like a Fitmama Strong Durham Playlist. We apologize in advance for singing along and for the spontaneous dance moves that happen as a result!

  • Enjoy the variety of a fitness class: This helps avoid workout plateaus and banish boring workouts! Repetition is an important element for injury prevention, skill building and meeting fitness goals, however, a group fitness class is a great way to make those foundational exercises feel more exciting!

  • Experience Self Motivation: You are likely you to work harder when you workout alongside someone else. Whether you are at an in-person class or at a live, online class in our virtual studio, the community connections, challenges and cheerleading skills will add a little extra incentive to work harder!

  • More cost effective: So much less expensive than hiring a personal trainer.

  • Learn something new: Find new and fun ways to strengthen your body and incorporate these new exercises into your at home routine.

Both our in-person and live, online group fitness classes are a great way for pregnant people and new parents to stay active and healthy. Parenting is a physically demanding job and our classes are uniquely positioned to help you build your strength, endurance, mobility and cardio health while also providing a social setting to meet new people.

Interested in joining us? Our community is a great way to meet other new parents. Fitmama Strong Durham has been operating in-person classes in the Durham Region since 2010 and we’ve been offering Online classes online from our virtual studio since 2020. Our community is a thriving and welcoming space for you and your littles.

We offer Prenatal Fitness and Prenatal Yoga classes, on-demand from our virtual studio through a special series. Our 30 minute live, online Express classes include a Prenatal friendly Yoga class.

If you’re new to Fitmama Strong Online, try one of our 3 Class Passes! You can use them at any of our Express classes on our live, online schedule. It doesn’t matter if you’re pregnant, your baby was born 6 weeks ago or 6 years ago, we have something for all of our members! Already been to Fitmama Strong classes? Attend and in-person series or grab a monthly membership and keep moving with us. Please note that our New to Fitmama Strong 3 Class Pass cannot be used at our in-person series of classes.
