3 Benefits of Exercising with your Baby

After the birth of a baby many people struggle with the real challenges of time management and self-care, especially as it relates to regular exercise.

Instead of perceiving your new baby as an obstacle to overcome as you try to squeeze in exercise, try looking for ways to incorporate them into your routine.

We recommend starting your fitness routine slowly and with an emphasis on core and pelvic floor coordination. Building the mind/body connection is an essential building block to progressing to more challenging exercises. Most pelvic floor and core rehab exercises can be completed with baby in arms, on the floor beside you or even on your lap.

When you are ready, baby wearing is a fantastic way to begin a new routine of exercising with your baby. Squats, lunges and walking are low-impact and strength building exercises that will keep you and your baby strong as they grow.

  1. You will have more time for exercise when you involve them in the experience. In fact, we encourage you to move with your baby when they are awake instead of waiting for that precious nap time to squeeze a workout in! Use nap time to rest or enjoy some quiet time instead!

  2. Exercising with your baby teaches them about healthy lifestyle and active living from a very early age.

  3. You both get to engage in some fun bonding time.

We promise that this can be an enjoyable and easy way to get more movement in to your day! The physical demands of parenting are REAL! A little bit of nourishing movement every day can help increase your energy, reduce pain and improve your mood.

Fitmama Strong Durham has been operating in-person classes in the Durham Region since 2010 and we’ve been offering Online classes online from our virtual studio since 2020. Our community is a thriving and welcoming space for you and your littles.
